Text 1
W: What was the best moment of the race for you?
M: Oh, when I reached the finishing line first. It was great to be ahead of the others on the track.
Text 2
W: Do you mind if I open the window to let in some fresh air?
M: Sorry. Better not, I’ve caught a cold.
Text 3
M: When will you be leaving for your planned holiday in America?
W: It’s out of the question at the moment. I’ve got a new job. But I’ll go fo
it as soon as my training is over.
Text 4
M: I have to go to class before I have a rest, but if I could, I’d go
with you to the concert.
W: That’s too bad. I wish that you could come along.
Text 5
M: I’m going to a party at Jack’s house.
W: You can’t be serious. We’ve got two tests at school tomorrow.
M: I know. I’m not that nervous. Anyway, take it easy.
Text 6 ( 6—7 )
M: Hi, Susan. Haven’t seen you for ages. How are you getting along with your work?
W: Hi, David. Not so well as I expected. I’ve left my position. I can’t bear my boss.
M: What are you going to do then?
W: No idea. Anyway, I have to think about it seriously. And you, David?
M: I’ve been very successful as a dancer. I like this kind of life.
W: You can’t do it forever.
M: No, but I’ve decided to open a dance school. Our young dancers need better training.
W: That’s a wonderful idea!
Text 7 (8—10 )
M: Hey, Lucy. I have a question I’d like to ask you.
W: Yes, go ahead.
M: Well, don’t laugh but I met this really nice woman from online music group. I need some advice. You see, Claudia…
W: Ok. So it’s Claudia, right?
M: Yeah, yeah. She invited me to spend two weeks in Germany. She’s planning on introducing me to her parents. What should you do when you greet someone for the first time in Germany?
W: Well, it depends upon your relationship with the person. Now, speaking of your girlfriend Claudia…
M: Hey, hey, I didn’t say she was my girlfriend.
W: Oh, OK. Now, if you’re meeting someone for the first time like Claudia’s parents, you should make sure you arrive on time.
M: Ok. So arrive on time. What about common greetings?
W: Well, Germans often shake hands and they use the person’s family name unless they are really close friends.
M: Ok. What about with Claudia?
W: Uh, you can call her Claudia, shake hands and why don’t you take her some flowers?
Text 8 (11—13 )
M: Good morning. What can I do for you?
W: I’d like a ticket to New York, please.
M: Round trip?
W: No, one way.
M: Okey, that’ll be $55.
W: 55?But it wasn’t so high last time. Does the flight still leave at 2:15?
M: 2:15 at Gate 18.
W: Fine.
M: Do you want to check in your suitcases?
W: Just two. I’ll carry the other one with me.
M: That’s good. We can check in two anyway. Give your baggage ticket to the driver when you get to New York
W: Okay, thanks a lot.
M: You’re welcome. Have a good trip.
Text 9 ( 14—16)
M:&n, bsp;Mary, I hope you have everything packed and ready to leave.
W: But I’m not quite ready yet. I can’t find my passport.
M: Your passport? That’s the one thing you mustn’t leave behind., SPAN>
W: I know. I haven’t lost it. I’ve packed it, but can’t remember which bag it’s in.
M: Well, you have to find it when we’re at the airport. Come on, the taxi is waiting.
W: Did you say taxi? I thought we are going in your car.
M: Yes, well, I had planned to, but I’ll explain later. You’ve got to be there in an hour.
W: The plane doesn’t leave for two hours. Anyway, I’m ready to go now.
M: Now you are taking just one case, is that right?
W: No, there is one in the hall as well.
M: Gosh, what a lot of stuff ! You are taking enough for a month instead of a week.
W: Well, you can’t depend on the weather. It might be cold.
M: It’s never cold in Rome. Certainly not in May. Come on, we really must go.
W: Ready now. We’ve got the bags. I’m sure there is no need to rush.
M: There is. I asked the taxi driver to wait two minutes, not twenty.
W: Look, I’m supposed to be going away to relax. You’re making me nervous.
M: Well, relax on holidays, but not now.
W: Ok. Let’s go.
Text 10 (17—20 )
My name is Jennie. When I was 12, my parents moved down London to a small village of Oxford. I was the only
Asian girl in my school. And I suddenly felt a bit lonely. Luckily, I had a brilliant art teacher who encouraged me to
go to an art college. I studied hard and was fully prepared for it with the help of the teacher. However, on the day
of my college interview in Bath, I woke up late. I left the house wearing two art shoes and didn’t notice that my bottle
of chocolate milk had fallen all over the painting in my bag. I sensed something bad coming, but I still wanted to try my
luck. Then when I got to the station, I got on the wrong train. Who knows if I had gone to Bath that day, I would be
a professional artist now. But I went to Swinton instead. I told the woman next to me on the train about what had happened,
and she said and cried with laughter. It turned out that she was the producer of a Talk Show Program on the radio. To cut long
stories short, I got to the station a week later to attend an interview for the show. And the result just as they say is interesting.
I’m very lucky, my life has been full of happy incidents. Now I’m in charge of a very popular TV comedy program.
